(This poem was written on Friday, 19th September 2008, whilst seated on some rocks on some Moors. It expresses the sense of rapture which results from being near God.)
How I love being filled with your Holy Spirit,
How I value this time of intimacy
How I appreciate these all too rare periods
Where we can be together, without distraction
In your presence, I’m like a lovesick nanny goat
Yet Jesus,
Amidst many blessings,
I want you to draw closer
Please grant me further insight into your ways
And help me to apply all you’ve already taught me.

Among the creased tissue paper
Wrapping each figurine,
Fingers excitedly opened
Wondering what each could possibly be.
A shepherd with strong wooden staff
Then some sheep to sit at his feet,
Wise men in Eastern apparel
Bearing gifts for the king they will greet
An angel with feather-like wings
Announces the Saviour's birth,
Animals gently ruminating
Sharing their home upon earth.
And Mary and Joseph watch over
Humbled at their personal role

This is the rather whimsical tale of how I came to be a poet. Let me know what you think...
It all began when I went looking for God
Belt buckle on
Strapped in to the spaceship that is my mind
Intending to find intelligent life out there
somewhere
And after years of searching
I soon came to nowhere.
That place in the middle of left and right
Where light is as black as night
And the stars can't shine because that
Thick black canopy blinds their irreverent winking.
